We recently installed and commissioned a new MUSTAD Autoline Auto Baiter system on board the fishing vessel Petuna Endeavour, one of the larger and more technical jobs completed by our marine division.

The Autoline system is an impressive piece of equipment, whereby it automatically cuts squid and baits hooks at a rate of up to three hooks per second. Fishing line is stored in cassettes and fed from the rack onto the deployment rail, passing through the automatic baiter, where each hook is baited before the line is deployed.

When the line is retrieved, the hauler brings it back on board, removes the catch (typically blue-eye trevalla and pink ling), trims off the remaining bait and returns the hooks and line to the cassette, ready for the next deployment.

The job covered everything from decommissioning the old system through to final commissioning: new control cabling and LAN runs from bow to stern, a new main enclosure, custom-built control stations at the hauler and bridge, a new bridge HMI console, and full testing and compliance documentation.

It's a strong example of the marine electrical services Tasmania vessel owners rely on us for, from routine repairs through to complex automation, control systems and compliance testing.

Scope of works completed

  • Decommissioned the existing MUSTAD Autoline system
  • Consulted with MUSTAD on installation layout, Autoline relay, PLC configuration and control station locations
  • Installed two 12-core control cables and three LAN cables from the front to the rear of the vessel
  • Installed and terminated all automatic baiter station cabling
  • Installed the new MUSTAD Autoline main enclosure
  • Manufactured and installed new control stations at the hauler and bridge
  • Terminated, tested and commissioned all control stations
  • Terminated and commissioned the main enclosure, control junction box and hydraulic junction box
  • Manufactured, connected and commissioned the AFMA relay control station
  • Installed a new power supply and autotransformer
  • Installed and tested the hauler speed proximity sensor
  • Removed the MUSTAD Autoline HMI from the original main enclosure
  • Fabricated and installed a new bridge HMI console enclosure
  • Permanently installed and commissioned the HMI within the bridge dashboard
  • Recommissioned the vessel's ice machine
  • Replaced three weatherproof GPOs and one Clipsal 56 Series GPO
  • Completed RCD testing and compliance documentation
  • Completed final operational and functional testing of the complete MUSTAD Autoline control system
  • Verified correct operation of all control stations and associated equipment
  • Updated as-installed documentation following commissioning
